If you have been keeping track the last couple of months, you will notice that we have been emphasizing the importance of core strength and educating more on this topic. The reason for that is because without a strong base, or foundation, you will not be able to generate power through your extremities. This can lead to not reaching your athletic potential out on the field of play or even worse, increasing your chance of injury. In order to help you strengthen your core, we are going back to Dr. Stuart McGill and the third exercise of the “McGill Big 3.”
As we stated in previous videos, the core consists of the area between the two shoulder joints and the two hip joints. Back in September, we focused on the” McGill Crunch” and your abs. Last month it was the obliques with the “McGill Side Plank.” For November, we are moving on to the lower back and “Bird Dogs.” With help from my son Will, I will show you the proper techniques for this drill and take you step by step through the different progressions, allowing you to start building up the strength in your lower back. If you want to improve your speed, quickness and strength, having a strong core is the foundation and paramount. So start implementing the “McGill Big 3,” into your routine and your performance is sure to reach the next level.
