Soft Tissue Mobility

Soft tissue work is an incredibly useful part of any good workout/exercise program. Many tools can be utilized to accomplish similar results; foam rollers, lacrosse balls, soft balls, baseballs, stick rollers, massage, etc. These tools should be incorporated before, during, or after any quality routine. These are just some of the many benefits that can be seen from maintaining soft tissue mobility.

  1. Improved Flexibility

Sedentary lifestyles can lead to a decrease in flexibility. By releasing tension on the joints, soft tissue mobility can increase the flexibility of the body before beginning your warmup.

  1. Circulation

Increased circulation of blood and lymph will allow the body to recover faster after strenuous or repetitive activity.

  1. Sleep Improvement

With an increase in flexibility and quicker recovery rates, the body is capable of acquiring a higher quality of sleep.

  1. Decreased Muscle Tension

Strenuous activity can cause muscles to become sore and stiff. This pain can lead to lower performance from an athlete. Soft tissue mobility can decrease this tension, preparing the athlete to perform at an optimal level.

  1. Improve Neuromuscular Efficiency

Decreased tension will allow the body to move properly through its normal ranges of motion. This will allow the nerves to activate properly during athletic performance. Inhibition of these motor patterns can lead to decreased performance or increased injury.
