The number one question we hear at the Parisi Speed School is about the possible dangers of strength training for young athletes. Whether it’s safety concerns or concerns about adolescent growth and health effects, our number one goal is to keep the athletes we work with safe.
Bill Parisi recently sat down with Damion Martins, MD, Director of Sports Medicine for Atlantic Health System, to discuss this topic. The American Academy of Pediatrics’ Policy statement on strength training by children recommends that after 8 years old, strength training can be performed in a safe, controlled setting.
