The first step to joining our Parisi Speed School program is to schedule your athlete for a performance evaluation. The evaluation helps you and your athlete learn more about our program, our coaching, and our environment. It also helps us understand your athlete’s current ability level: we measure how fast, how agile, how strong, and how injury resilient they are. We also try to assess their confidence and get to know them on a deeper level.
The performance evaluation can also be important for athletes that have been with our program in the past, and want to display their improvement. Scheduling a complimentary post-evaluation can highlight all the progress in both time and technique that your athlete has made. It can also help us provide you with the areas your athlete still needs to improve.
The Evaluation Tests
10 Yard Dash: Tests an athletes ability to accelerate. When you think about “first step quickness” the 10 yard dash is a great place to start the assessment process. We look for an athlete’s body angle, thigh drive, stride length, and more in this drill.
20 Yard Dash: Tests the acceleration phase and the transition into top speed.
Vertical Jump: Tests an athlete’s ability to jump and their vertical force production. We can often screen for potential knee and hip weaknesses in this drill.
5-10-5 Agility: Tests the athlete’s ability to change direction. If you need a quicker, more agile athlete, this is the test to assess them. We not only look for their acceleration ability in this drill, but more importantly, their base of support, weight distribution, and reacceleration ability when changing direction.
5 Hop Broad Jump: Tests horizontal force production. This also helps us assess risk of injury when applying force.
Overhead Squat Assessment: Tests an athlete’s injury risk. We screen the entire body to see which muscles may be weak and which muscles may be overly tight. This drill helps us with a proper strength and injury prevention prescription.
Chin-up (or Push-up) Test: Tests overall upper body strength. The muscles responsible for proper arm action when running are the same muscles used during a chin-up. If an athlete cannot perform a chin-up, we simply assess their upper body and core strength with a push-up test.
200 Yard Shuttle Run: Tests the athlete’s endurance and ability to maintain proper form. At the end of the evaluation, when your athlete comes back to greet you out of breath, it’s because they just ran 5 lengths of our track!
Laser-timed Technology
We are really excited to have added the Brower Timing System to our facility and our evaluation process. The Brower system is used at the NFL Combine, as well as combines everywhere, for the most precise timing of the 10 and 20 yard dash. If you have a serious athlete who needs professionally clocked times for recruiting, we are your place!
What Happens Next?
After the evaluation, we sit down with you and make a recommendation as to the best form of training for your athlete and their goals. If an athlete has general goals of improving their overall athleticism, we may suggest training 2-4 times per week and experiencing all three class offerings (Linear Speed, Multi-directional Speed, and Strength.)
Others have more specific goals, and we can help you create a schedule to tackle those specific goals.
When a high level high school athlete with huge goals joins our facility, we often suggest 4-6 days per week of training if they are in the off-season. We have seen impeccable results with this plan for getting an athlete to play college sports.
We do have plans and classes for athletes just looking to make the team and gain confidence for life, so the evaluation helps us learn how to motivate and inspire those athletes as well.
Scheduling Your Evaluation
Contact us to schedule your athlete’s performance evaluation with our professional, certified coaching staff. An initial evaluation is $49 and lasts 45-60 minutes. If you are an athlete finishing up a package, we can schedule a complimentary post-evaluation when it’s convenient.
