The red tube pictured above is being implemented more frequently in adult and youth training here at Champions. Michol Dalcourt, founder and CEO, of ViPR invented this training tool to recreate sub-maximal loads to imitate “farm boy strength” in performance facilities. His epiphany was if you had 2 athletes, one being a farm boy, and the other being a gym rat, and you had them wrestle each other… who would you place your bets on winning? Even though gym rats stereotypically have greater muscle tone, most people bet on the farm boy. Why? Because…
“You can’t fire a cannon from a canoe”
Ultimately, the farm boy spends his days loading his body in a sub-maximal Omni-planar movement for longer periods of time and as a result, becomes more stable. This leads to improvement in the following:
- Improved response from the neuromuscular system
- Improved starting strength (small mechanical pre-stretch)
- Strength endurance
- Improved odd-position strength
- Improved gross motor control/coordination/sensory & motor output
All things REQUIRED for athleticism! Especially for developing athletes.
Here are examples of different drills that focus on training instability to improve motor recruitment, power output, neuromuscular control, and injury resilience!
