We may not have had a choice to shut our business down, but we do have a choice on how we look at it! Let’s turn this calamity into an opportunity. Here are a few ways to do that.
Gain Perspective
What does this picture say to you? Is this glass half empty… or half full? It is all about perspective.
Are you a positive person or a negative person? I choose to be positive even in the face of adversity.
During this mandated down time, I am deep cleaning my facility and learning more about how to run my business virtually. Instead of belaboring the fact I cannot coach kids in person now, I have chosen to work on my business.
Rest and Refresh
Almost every coach I know runs at full throttle 24/7. This is less than optimal for most of us. I was taught to work 12 hours a day, 5 days per week (60 hours) and I would be a success. I routinely must stop myself and say slow down, but now I have no choice. So, I will be using this time to rest and refresh myself for a brighter future.
Serve Your Community, Build Your Community
How can you serve your athletes, their parents, the community, and your family? Share your toilet paper! Kidding… sort of. Although this would be a nice gesture, I am choosing to give my money and my time. I have frozen my client billing – no classes, no payment. I am coaching in the parking lot, the park, or the street in front of my house for FREE. I may take the hit now, but people will remember how you served them in the low times.
This is a time to build community. We must be physically distant, but not socially. Zoom, Skype, or FaceTime your athletes and interact with them. They and their parents will remember what you did. Check up on your co-workers and make sure they are okay. Volunteer to help the elderly……that could be you someday.
Give Thanks
Be thankful for the loved ones we have in our lives. Take this time to reinvest in the relationships that matter most – our parents, our kids, our relatives, and our friends.
