While many athletes play multiple sports, they often come to an off-season period. As the season comes to an end it’s important to recover physically and mentally. During an athlete’s off-season, it is the time to address any injuries and asymmetries and build a strength and speed program.
While many of our athletes have designated in-season programs, more athletes tend to have a higher volume program out of season or “pre” season since they are not competing as much. No matter the athlete or sport, they need to be evaluated from not only a physical standpoint but also a mental.
The Evaluation:
At Parisi Sparta, we recognize that each athlete is different and not one program fits all. When our athletes finish with their previous sport and transition into the off-season, evaluations are made.
In those evaluations, a couple of things need to be determined. First, the athlete’s physical well-being is measured. We perform a Functional Movement Screen to see how well the athlete is moving. Second, we perform a running analysis where we video tape the athlete running to better help us break down and understand the athlete’s unique mechanics. Third we run a battery of strength, speed, power, endurance, and agility tests to gain a baseline. Lastly, we take time to sit down with our athletes and parents and develop a plan based on their individual goals, time availability, and results from the evaluation.
The evaluation is important as it is the initial step to one’s off-season. With that high importance comes the detailed analysis of physical imbalances in each athlete, uniquely. We determine what every athlete needs to specifically focus on as they head into their off-season. This will translate into better performance for their upcoming season.
Program Options:
The program option comes uniquely to each athlete. These options are determined after the evaluation of the athlete after they finish their season.
When discussing program options, different goals need to be considered for the next season. With those goals in mind, we map out a plan to reach them. This is where our program options come into play.
Some options can focus more on speed, some on speed, and some on both. Specific program options will allow for these goals to be achieved. Since each sport and athlete has specific needs, we have different program options to get the most out of the training period.
The Overall Importance:
Training to improve your strength, speed, and agility will improve your overall performance no matter what sport your play. It is critical for all athletes, no matter the skill or age level to have some sort of off-season program built into their schedule.
Our off-season programs not only focus on strength and speed, but also focus on improving fundamental movements such as change of direction. So while we improve strength, we also emphasize on injury prevention.
The main objective of the off-season is to improve all physical aspects in athletes. We may also focus on helping our athletes strengthen certain body parts if they had a prior injury.
The off-season is the time to get ahead of the competition. If you have any questions or want a free evaluation, be sure to get in touch with us, or you can fill out the form here.
