Arriving at the gym without a planned workout in mind can lead to unproductive workouts and ultimately, wasted time. It’s likely you will include exercises that you enjoy or are familiar with, rather than making sure each workout is varied and focuses on different muscles. The overarching question is, what is your goal? Regardless of if it’s just to get in better shape, or become the next world’s strongest, it’s necessary to have a plan to achieve that goal. Put aside time to figure out exactly what you want to be gaining, develop benchmarks to track your success every few weeks, and then set up a program for yourself with specific focuses to help you get there. The internet offers controversial information about what is “best” or “right” and it can be confusing. Reach out to a Strength and Conditioning Specialist or Personal Trainer to help you develop a plan and get set on the right track to reaching your goals. Every gym session should have a purpose and shouldn’t be a program thrown together at the last minute. Make sure you start every workout with a purpose, follow through, and finish strong.
